In the project “Flechtenflöte/Lichenology”, lichenologist Christoph Scheidegger, recorder player Silvia Berchtold, and pianist/electronic musician Stefan Kägi explore the potential that lies in the combination of lichens, recorders, and electronic music. Lichens consist of several partners: fungi, algae, cyanobacteria, and sometimes others. This serves as a model for us to raise awareness of the diverse interactions between different living beings and their benefits.
The genome of the lichen is sonified and sounds symbiotically with a recorder, whose timbre is altered by lichen preparation.
